The Important Differences in EV Charging

Posted by Christopher Hahn on

Last time, we talked about a couple of our flexible RV adapters and how the grounding wire acts as more than a safety measure.

Let’s review real quick. The grounding wire also allows for the ability of EV charging. Tesla chargers require grounding for their chargers to work, but don’t require a neutral connection. The other EV car brands out there like Nissan Porsche, BMW, Chevy, Ford, Audi, and Volkswagen all require a neutral connection.

We carry gray adapters for EV charging as well. One thing to keep in mind when looking at these is the number of prongs on the male plug side. If you select a gray adapter with 4-prongs on the male plug side to the 14-50 4-prong female side, it can be used for any EV charging system.

If you select a gray adapter with only 3-prongs on the male plug side to the 14-50 4-prong female side, it can only be used for the Tesla charging system. This rule also applies to our gray flexible EV adapters. If you have any questions about which connection you need for your EV, reach out to us in the comments below.
